I have a few questions. Can you tell me what parts and instructions you bought on e-volks.com? Also what was the model of solar panel and how many did you buy? What batteries are they? And what is the mileage on a tipocal day with a full charge? Thankyou for your time and please reply.

I bought the kit #1 from e-volks, which is different now as they have sold out of all the starter/generator motors. There are 4 big solar panels which were purchased as a kit for an RV. I believe the brand was Sun Power. The batteries are Trojan 6 volt golf cart batteries. The range depends on the weather and driving conditions. In the city with much stop and go traffic I would estimate a 10-20 mile range.
I hope this helps,Posted by suncar5 on March 26, 2008 at 16:16:32 Pacific Time

I had a question for further information for the rest of us who would consider the solar/electric car that John Weber made.
How many watts is the solar panel he purchased? Does that solar panel generate enough charge to drive the numbers stated in the article per day? or does it take multiple days to generate a full charge?
What are the amp/hours of the batteries used?
What kind of charge controller does he use to boost the solar voltage so that it will charge the main batteries?Posted by dnear1 on October 14, 2007 at 09:20:38 Pacific Time

There are 5 solar panels on the car. One small one that charges the 12 volt battery that runs the lights, wipers, radio, etc...There are 4 large panels (15 watts each) that charge the 8 (6 volt, 220 amp hour batteries for the motor). In the summer about 4 miles a day can be gotten with the panels alone. If wanting to go further on solar alone more days of charging would be required or the car can be plugged into a normal outlet. Currently no charge controllers are used due to the large battery amp hours and the small amount of solar amp hours. Each large panel charges 2 (6 volt) batteries in series.Posted by suncar1 on November 17, 2007 at 21:32:21 Pacific Time
