I have looked at your web site but cannot find any files that show the dimensions of the pieces. I tried the PDF files and the .skp files. Where else may I look to find them?
THank you

I downloaded the Autodesk TrueView but the link here to the files does not work. It opens a text file and not a downloadable file.Posted by OrientSee on November 06, 2009 at 11:39:56 Pacific Time

I feel like a total dope, but I have downloaded the dxf, and trueview. What good are the sketchup plans for btw? I have attempted to export plans to PDF but it always insists that the paper size should be A4(210mm X 297mm). I dont understand how the plans will print to that size as the article states that the piece of wood the designers used was 27.5cm X 57.5cm x 1.5 cm... Has anyone had any luck getting the dimensions correct so I can print to pdf and have it printed at kinko's? I dont have access to a plotter OR wide format printer.Posted by sindicate on November 09, 2009 at 17:51:48 Pacific Time

Hi, I have made a pdf file ready to be plotted for cutting all the pieces. It is in 1:1 if printed in A2 format, I added a scale reference anyway. Please note that the thikness of the wooden panel should be 1.5 cm according to these proportions. Download the pdf file here: http://www.studiometrico.com/wp-content/UNABOX-cut-A2.pdf an mail me at mail@studiometrico.com for further questions. Good luck!Posted by lorebini on November 11, 2009 at 16:18:18 Pacific Time

It would indeed be very useful to get a pdf of a top-view of the plan (ideally with the dimensions that would fit a board the size that's used in the article, but not necessarily). I was going to get started on that project for a Christmas present but I just can't get satisfying results messing with SketchUp.Posted by ddaavviidd on November 17, 2009 at 10:29:36 Pacific Time

Here's a PDF top view I quickly made from the DXF file provided by Make:

Print it on Legal size paper. Measure it in millimeters and then scale those measurements up accordingly. Should work fine.

- locking pin

hi to all.
I've just about got the box ready to go and can't figure out how the locking pin comes out. is it loose enough to fall out when the box is turned upside down? It looks like it is flush with the top of the box and that is the only thing I can figure out. Is there some other way to grab it?
Thanks,

I have an answer and a question:
Answer:
Use Sketchup to determine dimensions. The downloaded file of the unibox drawing contains each part as a 3D Sketchup "Group".
Each part can be copied & dragged off to the side of the main drawing. The dimension tool then does an excellent job of providing all needed dimensions.
If desired, a second copy of all parts can be made. I used these to assemble the box. The Select, Move and Rotate tools are all that's required.
My next step is to master the Sketchup tools required to animate the opening of the box.
QUESTION:
Why are the mating surfaces of parts 10 & 11 tapered?
They can then be moved & rotatedPosted by LateralG on January 17, 2010 at 10:08:29 Pacific Time
- Top Down PDF on separate pages

Hi all,
I saw a lot of issues with printing this project. I realize most people do not have easy access to a plotter (me included) out so hopefully this helps:
I created a pdf with the pieces moved out to fit on letter size pages. I did by simply hacking up the MAKE pdf that is linked up top (Unabox PDF plans with dimensions, by popular demand). This way you do not have to fiddle with lining things up.
The link is here:

Hope this helps someone out there!Posted by nonoodlez on February 06, 2010 at 20:32:31 Pacific Time
