Mod your Honda/Acura Navigation System

navi.jpgI’m hoping a Maker out there might consider check this out (and take pictures)- this site offers a GUI, console and source versions of a tool to change the graphics in the navigation system in Acura/Hondas. The trick seems to be to know the special codes to display the BIN files in your nav system, pop out the DVD, make a new one, mod the files and then hit some codes to have the car take the new graphics. This also seems to open up a lot of other hacks and mods if you can change other things. Link.

Guys, is there anyway you can create a copy of the Nav system DVD. I refuse to pay 280 bucks to get the latest maps from Acura – so heres what I’m thinking. The next time I take my car in for service and get a loaner (which are generally new), somehow make a copy of its Nav DVD and pop the copy into my Nav system when I get it back. Voila, all new maps and POIs. While testing this theory on my own Nav DVD, I realized that it holds more than 6.5 GB of data, which obviously can’t be burnt onto a normal 4.7 GB DVD-RW… So what now??? While forcing the software to write the data onto a DVD, it kept puking out the empty DVD saying the data is not recordable onto this type of DVD. Should mention, I have a 2004 TL, and the Nav DVD’s database is from July 03. Any help would be appreciated – Jai

    It’s a dual-layer DVD.

    $19.99 for a 3-pack at Circuit City.

If your DVD burner has dual-layer writing capabilities, then go for it!
