RC Cars on the Battlefield

Images-1-1
Sgt. Greg Papadatos of the 69th Infantry Regiment has posted some details about how soldiers in Iraq are using Radio Controlled cars to test objects to see if they’re bombs. When they find unidentifiable debris in the road, E.S. sends out his little RC car and rams it. If it’s light enough to be moved or knocked over, it’s too light to be a bomb, so we can approach it and get rid of it. If it’s heavy, we call EOD. At night, they duct tape a flashlight to the car. The harness on this contraption is not ideal, as it will chafe the shoulder bones that stick out on a dog’s chest. As a musher I promise, these harnesses are considered absolutely unsuitable for working dogs. A better option, though more risky for both man & mutt, is to let the dog run up front. I own the dog powered scooter and enjoy it along with my dog. It allows us to experience healthy trips along trails where each of us share the work load. We bond through the activity. The dog powered scooter gives me the ability to control my dogs speed and direction. This is something I was not able to do using the same scooter with the dog runing up front on a line.
