HOW TO Build a 17-ft Wind Turbine

“The people over at Treehugger have found an amazing little article on how to build a 17ft – 3kW+ output Wind Turbine. Apparently this is the latest project of OtherPower.com and the site has a variety of other engergy saving/producing projects including a Homebrew Maytag Gas Battery charger.” [via] Link.

This is an incredible link. I loved reading about building the alternator, and learning about what goes into designing a wind-powered electric generator from scratch.

I was very impressed with their concern for the safety of the people working on the alternator. MAN, I bet those magnets would be impossible to get apart if you let them touch.

It almost makes me want to buy the book just for a good read.

Yes, be VERY careful around powerful magnets. I’ve gotten some skin pinched off between two magnets much smaller than the ones they used in their generator. Even hard-drive magnets (about the size and thickness of a quarter) can give you a good bloody (and I don’t mean the english expression) pinch if you’re not careful.
