Free 411 (sorta)

Computers & Mobile

PhoneHere’s a free 411 service (800-free-411) instead of paying your cell carrier (92 percent of the $8 billion the carriers earn annually on directory assistance calls is profit) you get the same 411 information plus a location based audio ad. I’m going to try it and see how it goes. [via] Link.

If your 411 directory assistance service does not work well, try this, you can cut your cellphone, business and landline 411 directory assistance costs with http://www.4114cheap.com. I saved over 50% on live operator lookups on my cell phone wireles and get two lookups on each call. You can even get directions by getting your call transferred at no cost to your inquiry which is real handy if you are in a strange city or lost, trying to find a location and all you have is the cell phone and you don’t feel like paying an arm and a leg for a lookup. There are no monthly minimums, and you can have 1 telephone or one hundred cell phones on the plan, there are no monthly minimums for this service. Please let me know if your solution works better for 411 service because I woul rather get it free! Thanks for the tip!

Why pay for 411 when it’s now FREE? So far the best FREE 411 service I found (they have LIVE! operators):

They have super friendly live operators, offer nationwide listings, and are advertiser supported. Many people balk at advertiser supported services, but I have found the ads very unobtrusive and well-placed. Save $1.50 to listen to 10 second ad, sign me up!

Just save 1-800-FREE411 (1-800-373-3411) into your phone directory. I’ve been using these guys for over a year now. Completely and totally free.
