On this site you will find information on how to build your own geodesic dome, as well as how to order one made to your specifications. The site also features a dome calculator as well as formulas to figure out the dome struts lengths. Thanks Rick! Link.

There’s so much MAKE:’in that goes on for and at BurningMan that you could devote an entire issue to it. And if you haven’t been, go.

You can make a quick and easy dome with PVC pipes. They need to be about 30 feet long for a 10 foot diameter dome. Drill five bolt holes in each pipe, equally spaced. For a 30′ pipe that means just under 6′ apart, and they have to be drilled EXACTLY evenly spaced. Lay five pipes in a star and bolt them together. Two more pipes go around the base and PRESTO, you have a dome!

But please, cover it with something more durable than polyethylene.

PVC is fairly flexible and (at least in the UK) not very cheap. Steel tube is more robust, longer lasting and cheaper that PVC.

The down side is it is hard to work with when making hundreds of flattened ends!.
