Yup, thanks to Apple. Sure. Try thanks to Bluetrek, if they provided proper drivers or made their device class-compliant it would work with no issues.
interesting hack, though the scotch tape seems as though it would be a little weak during regular head movements.
I’ll still say “thanks to Apple”, but it turns out “thanks to Apple for not telling me in their 900 line dialog box for the Bluetooth Firmware Updater that it was something that needed to be run on a regular basis to pick up new HID profiles.” The Bluetrek works fine now, although “no issues” is a bit of a stretch. :-)
