Make a soda bottle raft

60204334 3D865Ab707 SHere’s a Flickr photo set of a working raft made out of 120 2 liter soda bottles. The bottles are held together with duct tape and strapped to some wood. Thanks Bentheo! Link.

You can do the same with plastic coffee cups and a hot glue gun. I did it as a prototyping test for a floating island idea.

Collect a few hundreds of cups over years at your deathly dull day job, then glue them all together, and throw it in the water face down, to trap the air. It will resist huge waves, and take loads of weight, as long as the glue holds! I suggest a bit of wood on top to stop issues with point loads! (Or pointy loads, for that matter! ;) )

building_ideas.htm is where it’s at. I’ll sort the pictures in a sec!
