Panorama of a human head…

PanoThis is an incredibly cool, yet creepy panorama of a human head. I’d like to use this to make my Second Life avatar! “We’re trying to make high quality texture maps for game models. Using an FX-1 psuedo HD Sony camera, (its 1440 pixels, which is Sony’s anamorphic short-hand for a 1920 16:9 image,) placed sideways, I filmed Yoshi as he rotated on a turntable in front of the camera. The bank-robber cap was his idea. This resulted in about 1200 frames of a 360 degree pass around the head.” Thanks TowMater! Link.

What about some how shooting it with two camera at a fixed distance apart? Could you some how infer the proper distances to create the model at the some time?

No, seriously. If anyone figures out a complete workflow to create Second Life avatar skins with this you will be the new champion of the Internet. It seems like it would be easier to snap a couple shots with a DSLR instead of a ton of individual interlaced frames from a camcorder, then assemble it with Photomerge in Photoshop CS? http://graphicssoft.about.com/cs/photoshop/qt/csphotomerge.htm

you can do something similar with a basic flatbed scanner – just rotate your head as the scanning head makes it’s pass. Here’s some i did earlier http://www.flickr.com/photos/pg/sets/216634/
