THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY, COLLEGE OF THE ARTS

STUDENTS & FACULTY FLY ABOVE THE OSU SOUTH OVAL

Art & Technology Student Anthony Castronovo has been dreaming of flying since he can remember looking up at the sky and admiring the grace of birds or sheer power of jets. His ongoing questions of how, involved 1000’s of hours of research, materials testing and seeking university approvals from Police, campus grounds and multiple University officials.

Castronovo will finally get to realize and share his dream, by allowing others to experience the oval from a bird’s eye view. Lift 2006 consists of a large helium balloon, which can suspend passengers from a harness, allowing them to experience flight. With Ohio as a birthplace of flight and the Ohio State University College of the Arts allowing imaginations to soar, Castronovo’s work will serve as a direct experience for those who dare to question, create and ask what if.
Castronovo hopes that the public interaction that results from this work stimulates dialogue and contrasts the desire for an experience with the weight and responsibility of its implications.
http://www.floatup.blogspot.com for updates about Lift and come by the South Oval from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, May 24th, 25th, or 26th to experience and explore the space we live in. The event is wind sensitive and will happen two of three days, the best time being early in the morning, depending on weather.
