Altmann Turntable
Stokes writes “I’ve seen scores of homebrew MP3 players, radio receivers, et cetera, but this is a first for me: a totally homebrewed turntable. Even the tone arm was DIY. The fact the thing is built largely out of plywood, thread and Harley-Davidson parts yet looks quite professional makes it even more exceptional.”Link.

Looking at the page again, I notice that the cartridge wasn’t homemade. That makes it slightly less amazing than I’d initially thought.

as someone pointed out on hackaday, note that this guy is using over 2000 dollars of audio electronics to drive the stepper motor. so much for fifty dollars.

I don’t think you have to roll the cost of the DAC and amp into this design. (I also do not understand how someone came up with $2000?)

You could drive that platter with any amplifier. I’ve gotten 200 watt amps at thrift stores for around $10 in the past.

Still a solid piece of work.
