MAKE Flickr photo pool member Tuesdays With Maury fixed a broken DVD player instead of tossing it, nice work – “The disc tray on my Lite-on 5005 DVD recorder stopped ejecting disks. I took the case apart. Unscrewed the metal housing around the DVD drive. Tossed it. I then measured where the manual eject button rests when the drive assembly is mounted. I drilled a hole in the face of the 5005. Now whenever the drive sticks, I use a small rod and manually eject the disk.” [via] – Link.

I’ve a RCA VCR/DVD device, model DRC8295, that locks up when empty due to a magnet that pulls up the cd tray. An empty tray rides too high and catches on something. If you push the eject button, then rap hard at spot on top near the magnet, it bounces the tray down enough to clear the obstruction. Have to remember to keep something in the tray which will auto close after 5 mins!

I got a DVD player(Apex AD1600 I think) and it not work; when a disc is in the tray it says no disc; I tried factory resetting it on the choices on the menu but still have problem no matter what the disc, dvd or cd and different ones of each; does anyone know what to do; someone suggested cleaning lens and I got cd lens cleaner and it not work; maybe it not even go; would a dvd lens cleaner work and is it different than a cd lens cleaner?

I have a AVIA DVD-610 that was cycling and not playing. Upon inspection I found that a small rubber band driven off an electrical motor was slipping. The motor/rubber band drives the open/close for the disc tray and raises the disc drive into place. The tray opens and closes fine but the band slip when trying to move the disc drive up. It appears that the rubber band has stretched and needs replacement. Any suggestions where I can get a replacement for the rubber band?

I have an HP laptop model Pavillion dv 8000. My cd/dvd Ram player was working fine, but one day, it stopped recognizing or detecting anything. When I insert a cd or dvd, and check under my E drive, there is nothing.

I also noticed that when it was working, if I insert a cd or dvd, it starts to make a noise as if it is loading, and then a dialog box comes out with options to do, now that does not happen when I insert a cd or dvd.
I tried every suggestion that I could find. I uninstalled the drive, and it installed again, after restarting the pc. I did the upper and lower filters, I cleaned the lens, I changed the DMA to PIOS under device manager, as suggested by someone in a forum, nothing.

I am not very computer literate, so, is there anything I can do to fix this? I cannot afford to buy a new player.

    I appreciate any useful advice.

Hi I had the same problem with the laptop and the soluion is easy, it has to do something wit you going into the computer and clearing out a section in the computer havingto do with the registry. Once I called customer service and was on the phone for 2 hours, but I fixed the problem with them. But now, I am having the same problem, if you get it resolved let me know… if you ave waranty call it in and they wil guide you through the steps.. it has something to do with the registry… they make you go into some wrd files who’s names are all a bunch of letters and you have to go in there and clear some #’/letter then yurestart t works. relly cool just wish woud have recorded the conversation, to repeat it and fix the problem. If you get the solution, could you pleae let me know?
    thanks,

    Jeanette

took it apart pulled drive out. took drive appart. You will see what spins the disk. On its surface it feels gooey, and sticky. This causes the spinner to stick to the disk. It can’t eject when this happens but it plays OK. Is this “goo” supposed to be there? or did it attach something else which came off?
