Mechanical Art 1
There isn’t much information about the artist or where these are from, but it’s an incredible gallery of sculptures made from mechanical parts… Many of the sculptures are familiar characters like Alien, Pinhead, Gremlins and Predator… [via] – Link.

Update: The photos might be from this site/artist – Link.

Last summer I saw these sculptures of the predator and the alien on a street corner in Chang Mai, Thailand. I don’t know anything about the artist, but at least I can contribute their location…

The location sign is partially visible through the window. A quick Google search for “Noi’s” and “alien” led to this top link:

The full sign says “Noi’s Place” and is indeed in Chiang Mai.

I think these are definitely by Thai artists. Those art students in Chiangmai have some very active imaginations! There was a small gallery here in Thaitown in Hollywood, CA that attempted to sell these sculptures, but the gallery was short-lived. Now it seems like it’s just an empty store front.

Such sculptures can be bought in Bangkok at the MBK plaze , third floor. there is a shop that sells only these from very small ones to large ones like these in the picture. These are indeed made by Thai artists by welding together old car and bike engine parts from scrapped cars in Thailand. Some of them are pretty incredible. I saw the terminator, predator and some other cool figures too

i worked as a designer with a friend out of bangkok producing non-copyrighted sculptures for a while. we were working with a local artist who produced the alien and predators for sale over there. we were actually in talks with HR himself to work using his alien designs and other concepts. though through one reason or another (one of the main issues was the HUGE postage costs on half a ton of machine parts) the firm failed, though the 6 foot sculptures made from my designs are still in exsistance somewhere i believe. blummin lovely they were too. bit of a shame really….

on an interesting not one of my designs (of a scary blade-fingered man) was thought by the workers in the ofice in which they were stored to be responsible for the bad luck the firm was suffering. i don’t know what happened next but i do know we were asked to remove it immediatly :/

    i make bad juju…..

For those of us unwilling to go to Thailand to get your Sci-Fi junk turned treasure, this guy ships over a bunch of stuff for a few choice conventions and galleries. I bought two of their smaller pieces at DragonCon about 2 years ago. The two guys that run that shop are really cool, an older American and the Thai fellow pictured in the site.

I saw these same sculptures on sale at a street fair in Greenwhich Village this weekend. There were some really great ones and a lot of different sizes.

There is a huge alien made from mechanical parts just like this one except in a darker metal of some sort. a smaller version of it and a predator model are there too. i found them in a gadget shop in Derby, England. a new shopping center has opened there and they are in the window of one of the stores. the large alien model must be at least 7th tall. its brilliant. no idea who the artist is.

I have seen these. The artist lives in Mexico in Playa del Carmen, Riviera Maya. He or she has loads in the garden! Got photos! But it wont let me upload them!

This is the only one the site will allow me to upload. The rest are over 2mb
