Driedapples

Darn, it might be too late to do these for Halloween, but hey – it’s always a good time to make shrunken heads (from apples)… – Link.

Update: Here’s a good tip! msspurlock writes – Maybe not too late for Halloween! I have made apple heads in under 24 hours using a dehydrator. They’re super cheap and you can make beef jerky with them or dehydrate surplus vegetables for soups and the like.

A slow oven works well, too. Bake at 150F for 20-24 hours. I made several of these this year for my headhunter costume. I set my oven on “covect bake,” but I think a nonconvection oven would work just as well.

Had this when I was a kid. If I remember correctly, it just used a 60W bulb and didn’t take much more than a day or two.
