PC Magazine is having a contest to win a DIY PC subwoofer they made, but it’s more fun to follow their instructions and make your own – Thanks Braveit1! Link.

The article was pretty good, but I would not recommend this for your first speaker/subwoofer build, because of all the technicalities involved (most of which are the design complications associated with using a friggin’ PC tower). First, try building a sub out of wood, a driver (the cone and magnet assembly), and some wires. There are plenty of good places on the web for instructions (google it!) and TONS of great books on Amazon (or wherever) about speaker design and building.

I think the PC Mag article mentions this, but PartsExpress.com has a FANTASTIC selection of all kinds of sub drivers, and some good How-To sections to get you started.

p.s. is it just me, or did that whole post sound like a giant advertisement?
