Laser POV projector

Hey makers! This past weekend at the MakePhilly event, Joe showed off a really cool device that he made. In a nutshell he created a laser POV projector out of parts that came in at less than $100. I thought other makers would appreciate his creative project too.

You can get those reflector/motor assemblies out of old laser printers (and a laser too, but I think those are UV lasers and probably not a good idea to fool with), along with some little lenses and front-surface mirrors about 6″ long and 3/4″ wide. Not sure how to hook them up or run them, but they have some kind of little controller board they are mounted on and 4 (or6?) wires going to them. Some of the laser assemblies have some cool glass lenses in them too, very wide but thin.

100% brilliant! I recently tried to build a similar thing using nine spinning laser diodes, but it, eh, didn’t work so well…

John L. Baird would be proud of you :D

That is a way cool project.

It would be interesting to find out how far you can stretch the vertical resolution. I wonder if 80×24 text is possible.
