Bicycle that blows bubbles as you pedal

Lovely bicycle that blows bubbles as you pedal via Guy.

The Bloom device is meant to be a subversive and inspirational tool for our concrete jungles. Similar to the tuft of a dandelion as the wind carries the seedling, we propose a way of dispersing seedlings with bubbles and bicycling. Seeds are co-mingled with a bubble mixture and upon pedaling to your destination , you release the floating seeds which land in cracks and crevices throughout the city streets. Over time, the seeds grow into flowers and plants to create a green “fringe” to our sidewalks and streets.

Using natural ingredients; vegetable based soap and seeds, combine together to make a dissolving “nugget”. The resulting mixture resides in a reservoir inside Blooms aluminum housing. The housing is attached to the lower frame near the rear tire, similar to a exhaust pipe. Upon pedalling, air enters the front of Bloom and spins a pinwheel inside which picks up a small drop of the seed/bubble mixture and blows a bubble carrying a seed out the back as “exhaust”.

Our inspiration comes from the tale of Johnny Appleseed, where he would spread seeds everywhere he went planting apple trees for future generations.

Just add some anthrax to the mix…and you’ve got a nice low-tech bio-terror delivery device.

    Cool!

Everybody will love it… Until something with a good-sized root system grows in a crack in the street, the sidewalk falls apart, the city has to pay $2000 to get it fixed, and the maker of the product gets sued if the city ever finds out how it happened.

Wow, lots of negative nancies in the comments here! I think it’s an awesome concept that looks to have been well executed. Kinda curious how long it can go spitting out the bubbles and what the back end of the device looks like after awhile it seems like it would be pretty covered in seeds and soap or if the once popped in there do a decent job of dripping out.

Disapproval of spreading seeds willy nilly is not just negativity. Many communities are trying to restore plants native to the area. It’s a lot of work, mostly done by volunteers. I know the seed bubbles are well meant but they would very likely have unintended negative consequences.

I just like that it blows bubbles. Whimsy at its finest. Now, the fact that’s its raison d’etre is to make the world a little greener only adds to the charming nature of this idea. If I could ride a bike, I’d want it for sure!

I want one! Where can I buy it??

Like the bubbles but not the seeds. This could sabotage efforts to restore native plants. Not thoroughly thought through.
