Adachi Tomomi is a Japanese musician and sound poet. Make has covered his Tupperware synths before – his lower-tech work like the Tomoring is even more re-makeable.
Tomoring is exceptional instruments because it is not electronic but electric. It has many springs, metal wire, strings and so on. It is to hit, scrub by fingers, small sticks, brushes and electric fun. The sound is amplified by 4 piezo pickups attached on the acrylic plastic body.
You could easily skip the pickups and play unplugged.

if you played it unplugged, it’s unlikely it would sound like much. this wasn’t designed to be played acoustically, there’s no resonating chamber.
@dave, I think it would be fun for a kid to mess around with the noises, resonating chamber/ piezo pickup or not. You could build it on the back of an old yard sale guitar, for that matter. Any other ideas for remaking? :)
