Interactive Art: “The Cloud”

Craft & Design

“The Cloud” is an interactive sculpture that uses hundreds of sensors to control over 15,000 fiber optic strands. If you happen to be in Florence, outside the Fortezza da Basso, be sure to check it out. The website has a lot more information about “The Cloud”, including pictures and videos of the prototype.

An organic sculptural landmark that responds to human interaction and expresses context awareness using hundreds of sensors and over 15,000 individually addressable optical fibers. Constructed of carbon glass, spanning over four meters, and containing more than 65 kilometers of fiber optics, the Cloud encourages visitors to touch and interact with information in new ways, manifesting emotions and behavior through sound and a dichotomy of luminescence and darkness.

For a sculpture that resembles a giant carnivorous plant, and which lures a girl into its clutches, the video really needed to end with the girl getting eaten! But other than that, nice :)

    “Carbon glass”? Huh? Diamonds?
