Citizen engineer (audio fixed)

Technology

Weekend update… I fixed the audio issue on the Citizen Engineer video, transcoding to Flash seemed to mess something up. So here it (above) & in HD again… and if you just want to see techno soldering action video (below).

We’ll be presenting this along with a quick chat about open source hardware at the NYC ignite. Oh, and lastly! Slashdot has it in their “Firehose” section, vote it up!

Finaly, Make zine videos return to geek! I still watch weekend projects, but the show is completely different with Kip (not saying its worse, just more appeal to the amateur maker). PLEASE make this weekly. She makes a good host too.

  2. Jack says:

GSM operates in about 212 Countries? Are we including territories? If not, I only count ~195.

    Sorry, getting picky here.

We need more of this sort of thing! Awesome job here. Ladyada’s brilliant! Make this a weekly (or at least monthly) feature, please.

  4. St.Eligius says:

I’m loving the glass desk shots (solder blobs on the lens) and stop motion part install. Ãœber Groovy, as expected of Ladyada.

  5. Tom says:

Any idea if we can download this for home viewing ?

  6. Phillip Torrone says:

@Jack – according to the GSM assoc. they say 212 countries.

@Tom, click the vimeo link and on that page you can download the MOV.

yah, it needed to be loosened before it could be tightened… and in the interest of editing, i cut some of it, so that’s my bad.

    Woooo~!

That’s more like it! We need more videos by ladyada that make you think and less mindless drivel from kipkay!

  10. Phillip Torrone says:

@bob – that’s not constructive at all, please keep the personal attacks off MAKE. next time i’m just going to remove your comment.

  11. Bob says:

Sorry PT, that wasn’t meant as an ad-hominem attack… Just commenting that this is a very good video, which in my opinion is far more mentally stimulating than a good deal of other videos that have been posted recently.

At any rate, keep up the good work!

  12. Phillip Torrone says:

@bob – no problem, thanks for the comment.

  13. Nick says:

This is exactly the kind of video that I and the larger Make likes and would to see more of!

I know you need to cater for a wide range of audiences but sometimes (well usually actually)I feel Kipkay’s weekend project videos are either basic, tacky, uninformative or don’t explore anything new. After watching I am not “wowed” and am left to feel as if I haven’t learnt anything.

I am not out to personally attack anyone, this is just my opinion.
    Cheers,
    Nick

  14. Bob says:

Thank you Nick, for expressing what I was trying to say better than I could.

It seems there’s a fine editorial line in interpreting the difference between “constructive criticism in an innocent and naive attempt at suggesting helpful ways to improve the site” and “slanderous and derogatory personal attacks against staff” which plagues blog owners these days.
