Found in the MAKE Flickr Pool: user In dust we trust made this earring from a vintage subminiature vacuum tube. This would go great with a hard drive needle tiara for steampunk accessorizing.
UPDATE: turns out In dust we trust’s girlfriend, Darla, made these. Beautiful jewelry!

Hey, I really appreciate this hitting the make blog!
Just to clarify, my girlfriend Darla made these.
See my set on Flickr for more of her stuff:
Darla is a very talented and creative jewelry maker. so unique and aesthetically pleasing.
<3 you Darla!
Great work, Darla!
Since it didn’t show up in the related posts, I thought I’d post a link to my vacuum tube necklaces that appeared on Make a couple years ago. You can read it here: http://www.docpop.org/2006/09/03/transistor-bending.html
I really liked making these, but I was concerned about safety issues that could come up when working with these materials (ie chemicals like led or mercury). If anyone has any good feedback about safety issues with vacuum tubes, please let me know (either via the comments in my blog or email me at yoyogenius@gmail dotcom).
I can appreciate the beauty of a functioning or nonfunctioning vacuum tube. I can also appreciate the skill and beauty of the added crafting.
To do this to a new tube (especially new in the box) is just a waste. Let the tubes serve their intended purpose. Do this to dead tubes only please.
