I think buying a 10 pound dumbell would be cheaper. Or one could fill empty soda bottles with sand.

Um, I guess 10 pounds is not too much weight, but you’re gunna want pretty tough hands to use this dumbell, given the threaded rod handles. My office-worker-soft hands would be pretty sore at the end of the workout. Maybe some tape or foam around the handles?
