EMF bracelet will alert you when it’s not safe

Science Wearables

This “Electromagnetic Field Destector Bracelet” will alert you of the EMF affected areas that you inhabit daily. It reminds me of a project that I worked on in 2002, so it’s nice to see the evolution of the device is getting smaller and more integrated into everyday clothing and accessories. The next step with this one would be how to integrate the mapping aspect, a problem that I never fully finished with my design.

The title of “EMF bracelet will alert you when it’s its not safe” is kind of scare-mongering — in the video they state that it’s not even known whether EMF fields are harmful or not, so honestly, they don’t have any idea what amount or distance from such fields are safe. Please don’t add to the conceptual noise in Make’s otherwise fantastic signal.

This should be very popular with the foil hat crowd… unless this whole thing is a government or alien perpetrated plot to get us to tag ourselves for easy monitoring/control!

    You’ll never get ME! Buuwaahahahahahaha!

    Unbelievable

EMF radiation can be VERY unsafe, such as right next to a high-tension power line, a transmitting antenna, or a radar station.

The question here, though, is if “Small-time” EMF, like from a computer or WiFi router is dangerous. (I’m fairly confident the answer is a resounding NO.)

Keep in mind that EMF radiation follows the exponential decay model (ie, 1 foot away = 10 times less radiation)

mlange: I believe you have EMF and RF confused. They are not entirely the same.

High energy RF can cause damage, through burns.

Radio frequency (RF) is a frequency or rate of oscillation within the range of about 3 Hz to 300 GHz. This range corresponds to frequency of alternating current electrical signals used to produce and detect radio waves. Since most of this range is beyond the vibration rate that most mechanical systems can respond to, RF usually refers to oscillations in electrical circuits or electromagnetic radiation.

A special property is an electromagnetic force that drives the RF current to the surface of conductors, known as the skin effect. Another property is the ability to appear to flow through paths that contain insulating material, like the dielectric insulator of a capacitor. The degree of effect of these properties depends on the frequency of the signals.

Any EMF bracelet must play “Unbelievable”.
