Knit! Knit like the wind! There’s still time to knit someone a scarf for a holiday gift if you’re fast. Yarn Harlot Stephanie Pearl-McPhee recently made a gorgeous, simple scarf with a really nice yarn – I made a lower-rent version using about 2 skeins of Cascade 220. I did a 2×2 rib over 38 stitches on size 10 needles. It’s a very easy holiday present and a somewhat hypnotic, therapeutic knit.
I also made this ribbed scarf – same yarn and needle size, but alternating rows of K3,P3, and K1,P1 – you have to cast on a multiple of six stitches. I don’t remember where I found this rib pattern (years ago!), but it’s simple and fast, with an interesting texture.

I’d love to try the last scarf. When you say K1, P1 with the K3, P3 – where would you do the K1/P1? I understand the K3, P3 all the way across…but the K1/P1? Sorry, I’m new to knitting. :)

You make sure you cast on in a multiple of 6 – so, say, 36 stitches. Then do one row of K3, P3, all the way across. Turn your work, and do the second row K1,P1, all the way across. Do the third row K3, P3 again; fourth row K1,P1. And on to the end of the scarf. :)
