Cooler Master’s 5-CPU single-case PC

Computers & Mobile Craft & Design

Cooler Master shows off a “because we can” mod of a five quad 2 core CPU system (20 x single cores) stuffed inside of a single ATCS 840 PC case. 53GHz worth of computing power. A Cooler Master 1000W Real Power M PSU was used to power everything. And they used 2.5 HDDs to reduce power consumption and noise. CPUs were water cooled, everything else was air cooled.

That’s definitely a “Because we can” kinda thing. I’d like to see them rig those up as a cluster.

it’s not 53GHz of computing power. no matter how many cores you have, it’s still just 2.66GHz. if you want to talk about computing power, talk about operations per second.

Actually, in this context, it is truly 53 GHz of computing power. If you rig them as a cluster, it would essentially be able to do as many calculations per second as a 53GHz PC. Even not configured as a cluster, it is still capable of doing the same calculations per second, albeit seperately, and for no real purpose.

    Think: server farm.

Seriously. This is really lame. If it had been a blade server, or cluster MPP, now that would have been interesting. This is just 5 systems stuffed into a single case. Booooorrrrriiinnnnggggg.
