I got burnt big time with the first generation of the Xbee with Zigbee fw. The zigbee documentation indicated thousands of rfd could join a coordinator but in implementation we found out the limit was less than 100 rfd nodes. After contacting support we were told they never tested that many nodes and that Gen 2 would fulfill the documentation specs.
