I love this log, spotted in the MAKE Flickr pool, cut with an air intake and a chimney to create an outdoors self-contained heating unit.

All in one, disposable oven

The chimney hole is from rot/disease/etc. I wonder if this is as easy as cutting a slot to meet the bottom of the naturally-occurring hole?

or a few plunge cuts with a chainsaw?

I’m going to have to try this with 4 small logs and some baling wire…

One name for them in Finland is Jätkänkynttilä, which roughly translates as lumberjacks candle..

Block of wood, slits using chainsaw, rag dipped in gasoline and a match. Fun for the whole family :)

This is awesome. I love the simplicity. I was thinking the same thing about it being a couple of plunge cuts and a cut on the side. I may be able to work outside this next winter.

Brilliant. I hope to give this a try the next time I go camping.
