Over at Gizmo Projects, they tidied up their desk by installing magnets in a wireless keyboard and mouse so they can stick to the wall when not in use. I have a stand for my wireless keyboard (with built-in trackpad) and I love having actual desk space when I need it.

I wondered if magnets might mess with the internals of the mouse / keyboard – but clearly they don’t. Clever idea, and a great way to create a bit more room on my desk without having my keyboard in my lap. Thanks!
I know this works with magnets but I don’t like having magnets anywhere near my computer (and I don’t have the nice little shelf so they would have to be weight bearing). Anyway it would certainly mess up the aesthetics but you could just use nails/pegs or velcro. I have this strange vision of the pegboard people use to mount tools in order to give the office more of a shop feel. Might be fun.
Magnets won’t hurt modern computers, but that doesn’t mean they won’t cause problems with magnetic media or old CRT based displays. Some of the strongest magnets I’ve ever handled came right out of hard drives.
Sweet rig, dude.
