Simon Mwaura’s junk-built home automation system

Computers & Mobile Technology

The really cool thing about the maker featured in this YouTube video is that his home automation system is cobbled together from salvaged components and bits of junk. My advice is to ignore the insipid voice-over and fast-forward to 0:23, where the good stuff starts. Via AfriGadget.

Insipid? Give the guy a break – this is wonderful!

I was referring to the reporter, in case it wasn’t clear. But even so, fair enough; “insipid” is probably a bit rough. Retracted.

A cheap system that has impressive capabilities built out of otherwise useless junk. That’s the best of the maker mentality right there!

Awesome! The alert messaging system is impressive.

Makes you wonder what he could do if someone sent him a Maker Bot and a PC.

Just read through the comments with Simon and he appreciates the love. He’s currently learning how to program micro-controllers at the Nairobi FabLab. I’m just familiarizing him with the website.
