Via BB Gadgets comes a link to this commercially-available coffee roasting drum which fits onto the rotisserie unit of your outdoor gas grill. The roaster drum costs $110. If you’re crafty with a little metalwork, I bet you could fabricate one yourself for cheaper.

This or something along these lines would be great for chili roasting.
Those are all pretty much stock parts. I’ve seen the mesh at Home Depot, along with the “U” channel aluminum. Very likely the end plates would be available, too. (I’ve seen some aluminum plate at HD, I just don’t know if it was wide enough.) Certainly all of the nuts and bolts are available at HD.
And the Rotisserie unit.
So this would easily be a Saturday project. It is certainly raising my interest in roasting my own beans.
Wow – On a crisp autumn day, outside by my grill, the smell of roasted coffee would travel for miles.
this looks like someone’s DIY project already. complete measurements if you follow the links… BBGadgets >> Cooking Gadgets >> Amazon (out of stock) >> coffeeroastersclub.com
CoffeeRoastersClub has many more models available, including a 1-lb version and an all stainless version. but the rotisserie unit is not included, they actually recommend home depot for that.
@Anonymous-
Careful, the screen at HD is most likely zinc galvanized, and introduce nasties when heated, or may even react with the beans(?)
searching online at HD (stainless+screen) gave stainless window screen, black coated, and a fireplace screen. now MAYBE the material is unfinished, but at $249…I would keep looking.
Maybe a kitchen supply company?
