Fascination: Larry Weiss

Fascination: Larry Weiss

Why is Larry Weiss fascinated with hygiene? Well, he believes that it is a human engineering problem that society has attempted to solve chemically, with poor results. So, instead of fighting a losing battle trying to convince people about this, he is working to produce a non-toxic alternative to common cleaning products. Find out the whole story in our exclusive interview with him.

Larry’s talk is the latest installment in our Fascination series of interviews with notable scientists and technologists, sponsored by Dow Chemical.

Isn’t he *also* trying to solve the problem chemically?

I mean, what I’m getting here is that my old chemicals are obsolete and I should buy newer ones.

(Also, I’m getting that I should wash my hands, but I already do that, so I’m good.)

Er … To be clear, I’m only commenting on the way this is being presented. I don’t doubt that my old chemicals are all obsolete. That’s the march of progress for you.

      1. Matt Mets says:

My interpretation of what he said is that many cleaning products wouldn’t be necessary if people washed their hands. Because many people don’t actually wash their hands, however, the cleaning products are necessary, so his company is working to develop less harmful replacements for them.
