In answer to the gist of your comment: What has Jake von Slatt done that warrants all of this attention? He makes cool stuff, he sends it to us, we frequently like it, and we post it. That simple. Yes there are tons of other people doing equally worthy stuff. And we post lots of that too, as much as we can each day (over 20 items each day on average).

Jake, that looks like a big honkin’ furnace and crucible. How many pounds of aluminum do you get per melt? I’ve read that more experienced melters always wish they made their furnace smaller because it’s less volume to heat up all the time. What made you decide to go so big?
