One of my students, Garrett Tillman, made this tutorial for creating a space-saving under-the-shelf magnetic spice rack.

I love this ingenious idea. It reminds me of a tutorial I did last year for Craftstylish: http://www.craftstylish.com/item/41915/make-a-metallic-makeup-palette

epoxy is a nasty chemical- not exactly something i would want in close proximity to spices i will inevitably be eating.
i did this same project but i used a magnetic knife strip from ikea (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00136621) and put all my spices in old babyfood jars- no magnets needed (!) on the inside lid- the metal cap is more than sufficient in adhering to the magnetic strip
this works great! and is way easier than drilling lots of holes and measuring with cardboard templates and using epoxy in a food vessel. and it looks really pretty!
