Greg Charvat, a researcher at MIT’s Lincoln Laboratory, wrote in to share his old workshop, the Rad Lab:

This workshop is full of microwave test gear, analog test gear, new stock components, data books, sorted parts, etc. It also has a complete machine shop with a Bridgeport vertical mill, a drill press, compressed air, and other tools. All of this was crammed into the basement and garage of my 816 square foot house in East Lansing MI.

I used this workshop in grad school from 2004-2007, where i used it to build my dissertation and other radar sensors. Since then i moved to Massachusetts and brought the workshop with me (less the bridgeport mill and many of the scrap parts).

See Greg‘s site for more pix of the workshop. My favorite part of his description: “Notice the mess. A clean lab is not a productive lab.”
