Electronics Flea Market – today! Saturday Aug. 14 – Hosted by West Valley Amateur Radio Association.

The Electronics Flea Market “swap meet” is held on the second Saturday (pre dawn) of each month, March through October. The flea market is organized by ASVARO for the benefit of non-profit amateur radio organizations in the Silicon Valley. The flea market was held in Sunnyvale in 2004-2005 and in previous years at Foothill College in Los Altos. The organizations that participate in the flea markets are active in amateur radio education, emergency communications, and civic support activities.

I’ve been going to the electronics flea market for 2 years. Since I became a ham. I look forward to it almost as much as I look forward to the maker faire.

Today I had a find. A capacitor tester from the 1950′s that uses a vacuum tube called a magic eye as a pass fail indicator. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kEveOBzncFk It cost me$5. It does need the test lead rebuilt and a new power cord. No caps to blow up, but a big transformer. So I can apply power and see if the a magic eye and 2 other tubes are working. Anyone have a variac I can borrow? :-D It will be neat if I can get it going for another $5 or $10.

This year I bought a used HP multuimeter, a wavetek signal/function generator good for 20Mhz and a Marconi 120Mhz rf function generator.

Another other current model vhf/uhf mobile for a Great price.

Plenty of older oScopes, tubes, used computers, electronics gear and ham gear can be found.

Since I am a ham, I get to see a bunch of people I only talk to on the radio. So it is big social event for me.

If you live in the sillycon valley area, and like halted and weird stuff, you cannot miss the flea market.

Last 2 dates for 2010 are September 11. Yes 9/11. And October 9th.

I was there too. It was a good meet, and I’m glad that the weather did little more than threaten to sprinkle on us.
