By way of Steampunk Workshop comes news of the U.S. Land Steam Record (USLSR) Team and their attempts to build and race the fastest steam-powered vehicle on Earth. They plan to try for that record on the famous Bonneville Salt Flats, as early as August, 2011. The previous land steam speed record is held by Team Inspiration from Great Britain, who clocked 148.308 mph in August 2009.

Shows the lack of steam progress over the years. The steam locomotive Mallard did 125MPH back in 1938!

The engine they are using for the land speed record looks interesting. A very modern steam engine.

  2. Rahere says:

Not the land speed record, the UK’s after breaking that one by the biggest margin ever and to break the 1000mph record with it. See http://www.bloodhoundssc.swan.ac.uk/engineering/
