New in the Maker Shed: IR Jammer kit

New in the Maker Shed: IR Jammer kit

The IR Jammer kit provides a bit of safe and non-destructive fun with anything that receives IR signals. With just a click of a button, you can render all IR remote controls inoperative! No TV is safe! The design allows for all 6 of the main IR frequencies to be targeted, making it a universal jammer. Combine it with the Super TV-B-Gone kit and you’ll own the IR spectrum!

I just got one of these, and I’m planning to build it to see if activating the two at the same time as the TV-B-Gone will create a ball of dark matter in the living room.

John Park – using one of these and a TV-B-Gone is the ultimate in television denial. My favourite eatery has a few large TVs around the dining area, so I switch off the set closest to me, then buffer up the IR Jammer to get some peace and quite. Highly recommended. im curious as to how the starbucks maker crowd would feel about my running around town with a wifi jammer or cell jammer?

    1. John Park says:

Invoking the word “terrorism” is a tad extreme, and sensationalistic. Like many things in life, it’s not the thing you have, but how you use it. I plan to use it to prank my friends. Someone else may plan to use it for less innocent reasons.

I’d apply the same thought process to your WiFi jammer or cell jammer example. Using them at a remote cabin on vacation to make the point that you’d rather everyone get off their computers and play Scrabble (off course turning the cell jammer back off to allow for emergency calls) is one thing. Using them at Starbucks as you suggested is another thing entirely.

you are specifically not the problem.

It is these.. social purists who wish to determine whodoes what and when. They scour make and cracked for fun while deriding others for watching television and dont get the irony. And brag about doing things like going to a bar and abusing the patrons hospitality and probably hurt his business by using their toys. When you do that its nothing more than low level terrorism.

Again people like you who want to use it to prank friends or just build because its a fun idea arent the problem. Heck id like to turn faux news off everywhere and raise the national iq for 10 points but i dont have the right to silence others free speech and ideas.

    1. John Park says:

OK, I get your point better now, and I agree that I don’t want people to be immature and mean-spirited either.

Here’s what Alan Parekh (designer of the IR jammer) says about the intention of the device: “Perfect for playing pranks and keeping your TV channel on even when you go and make a sandwich.”
