So, are you ready? We’re not really ready. We’re in denial. And seeing that a lot of sites started running their holiday gift guides before the wicks on the Halloween pumpkins had even cooled, only made us want to dive deeper into denial. But don’t get us wrong, we’re not Scrooges or anything. We like giving presents to our loved ones, and getting them in return. We’d just rather not lose our heads over the whole business and we at least try to be thoughtful consumers. As makers, we like to give presents that are made by hand, or tools that will enable the recipients to make things themselves, or gifts made or sold by small maker businesses. And OK, sometimes we break down and flash the plastic over dumb “gag gifts” and frivolous toys. Hey, we’re only human.
In the coming weeks, we’ll be running a series of MAKE-friendly gift guides, covering everything from coveted tools and equipment to the best in science and tech educational gifts to awesome toys for all the geekly girls n’ boys (of all ages).
And, we also want to publish a gift guide written by YOU. What do you want this year? What’s on your holiday list? Tell us in the Comments section below. Be specific, with item, description, price, and URL. We’ll gather together our favorites into a MAKE Readers Gift Guide. And we’ll choose three of the contributors and send them each a copy of our new Make: Ultimate Workshop and Tool Guide 2011. So, climb up here on Santa’s lap and tell him what you want. OK, scratch Santa’s lap, that’s just creepy. Tell us what your gift desires are in the Comments below.

This is a direct copy/paste from this list (http://bit.ly/cnmCUp) that I sent to my parents and other family members. I have no problem sharing this with you, including my need for boxers.
I will say I was going to ask for an Arduino board and getting started book, but I went ahead and bought myself an uno when the shed had it on sale. I gave it to my mother to wrap up. The first couple of items are more realistic to what I may get, as there is no way I am getting a $2000 tablet that I don’t pay for myself.
Haha, good times. Merry Holidays!

Black & Decker Thermal Leak Detector. This tool is indespensible if you are serious about improving the energy efficiency of your home. The TLD 100 changes color when the region where you are scanning is 1, 5 or 10 degrees different than they set point. This makes it a lot easier to use than standard infrared thermometers because you can watch the area you are scanning, rather than constantly having to look at the temp reading on the screen.

Channellock 357 Cutting Pliers. I need a pair of these, all I have are slip joint, linesman, and needle nose pliers and it would be great to have something with a nipper type end.

Craftsman 2A Multifunction tool. I have the Harbor Freight Multifunction tool, but would love to step up to this 2 Amp Craftsman version with better ergonomics, a built in LED, and variable speed.

Irwin One-Handled clamps. I need another pair or two of these, preferably a pair of 6″ and a pair of 12″. I saw an Irwin multi-pack clamp set at Home Depot that has all sorts of clamps (including these) in a single package, and that set would be the best option.

The Scanguage II is just one of those cool things that I’d love to have, but can’t justify buying one. The ability to watch my MPG in real time while driving has always intrigued me.
