Announcing Maker Faire: North Carolina , June 18, 2011

We got an email this morning from the fine folks who are organizing this year’s Maker Faire: North Carolina. Here’s a brief description of the event:

Maker Faire: North Carolina celebrates things people create themselves — from James Bond-worthy electronic gizmos to Martha Stewart-quality “slow made” foods and homemade clothes. Inspiration is ubiquitous at the festival and there are surprises around every corner for people of all ages.

Maker Faire: NC is a fully sanctioned event but is planned and coordinated by Raleigh/Durham locals. Our goal is to bring together Makers, Crafters, Inventors, Evil Geniuses, Scientists, Artists, and everyone else for a day of fun and inspiration.

The also have put out the Call of Exhibitors.

After the jump is a letter from Faire-organizer Jon Danforth with further details on the event.

Maker Faire: North Carolina was a huge success in 2010 with over fifty exhibitors and more than 2000 attendees. Not bad for a first-run! We’re aiming much higher for Maker Faire:NC 2011 and I want you to be a part of it. The event will be on Saturday June 18, 2011 from 10AM to 5PM.

We’re moving to the Gov. Kerr Scott Building on the NC State Fairgrounds in Raleigh which gives us more than 20,000 square feet to stretch our legs. In 2011 we’re doubling the number of exhibitor slots available and we hope to better than double our attendance as well.

The best part of Maker Faire: NC is the awesome projects and exhibitions. I really want you to show off the cool robot you’ve been building, biological computer you’ve been growing, textiles you’ve been spinning (with or without biometric sensors!), and whatever else you’ve come up with. This link has all the information you need to register your project or business and stake your claim to a booth.

Our website has been comprehensively updated with goodies and information about MFNC 2011. Have a good look around for information about travel, venue, tickets, T-shirts, and more.

Finally, I want welcome our first 2011 sponsors: ShopBot and Hines Design Labs. Both companies are returning sponsors for 2011 and have really helped to make this event happen. Thanks! If you or your company is interested in a great marketing opportunity please have a look at our Sponsorship Opportunities.

I can’t wait to see you in June!

Jon Danforth

This is awesome! I missed the San Francisco Maker Faire last year, much to my disappointment. I moved to North Carolina in July of 2010 and I was hoping to make it to NYC Maker Faire but due to lack of funding, I missed that one too. I KNOW I can make this one because it’s only 30 miles away. Guess it’s time to dust off my submission from last year and get on with it then. See you there! Yahoooooo!

Had fun at last years – glad they are doing it again.
Even more glad it is at NC Fairgrounds rather than over in Durham

Loved last years affair, now with much larger venue, this should be awesome!
Now to talk my wife into displaying her craftiness!
