We were thrilled by the response we got to our Green Project Contest, part of GE’s ecomagination. We ended up with 83 projects posted, 6634 votes, and many tweets and FB shares. There were a lot of really interesting, innovative, and fun entries, from re-webbing aluminum lawn chair frames with old belts, to a building your own solar device charger, to the Green Scientist program (teaching science and sustainability to kids).

When we’d counted up all of the votes, the winners were revealed. And now… the moment you’ve all been waiting for. [Pregnant pause] The winner… of the Grand Prize… in the Make: Green Project Contest is… [Another pregnant pause]:

Congratulations! A very cool and worthy project. We’ve officially tagged your green! You have won a trip for two to Maker Faire 2011 (winners choice of Bay Area, Detroit, or New York)! And you win the runners-up package, too.

The runners-up, winners in each category on the project site, are:

Upcycle Exchange (Recycle Category)
Save Energy with a Converted Chest Freezer (Conservation)
The GomiCycle – A Honda Rebel-Electric Conversion (Transport)
Algae Farms for every home (Renewable Resources)
Green Scientist (Other)

You all win:

Congrats to all of the winners and thanks to everybody who posted a project, voted on projects, and helped get the word out. And just because the contest is over doesn’t mean these projects are still not worthy of your attention. Check them out, visit the project websites, email the creators of projects you like and tell them so. These are people trying to dream up innovative solutions to problems, whether small or global in scope. They could use your encouragement.
