3D Buried Treasure

3D Printing & Imaging

Interested in learning about powder-based 3D printing and in the greater Seattle area on Thursday, February 10th? Matt over at Metrix Create:Space will be giving a workshop on the subject and will introduce his latest project, 3dburriedtreasure.com, a fun and educational skill building exercise for all.

3D powder-based printing is more than designing something digitally and pulling it out of a machine. There is skill involved in removing the excess powder, artistic expression in post process and finish. For the many years that this technology has existed, the price has been prohibitive because of the cost of materials, the pricetag of the machine, and the idea that high resolution print customers need to be high dollar designers with big money to get their visions realized. We don’t believe that it should remain out of reach. We want cool things too.

Did I get it right? You buy a box full of powder with your 3D object buried in it?
So what do you do with the powder? That doesn’t seem very eco-friendly.

It is casting plaster. You can make things with it.
