What’s a Netduino? Glad you asked! Netduino is an open source electronics platform using the .NET Micro Framework. The board features a 32-bit microcontroller and a rich development environment, making it a perfect solution for engineers and hobbyists alike. If you are picking up a Netduino, be sure to check out our exclusive MakerShield. It’s a perfect match for the Netduino, and any other ‘duino flavored micro!

I’ll be honest, I have no idea what the thing above does. I’m guessing that most of the people who read this do know and that some of you may be able to help me.

I’ve been given the task of finding a company to help us develop a wireless device to monitor temperature and maybe some other functions remotely. We’d like it to have a base that a user can check for status but also, maybe, an app that people can check using their phones or online.

I’m a low tech maker and Make is one of my favorite magazines. I’d appreciate any leads you can offer me.

    Thanks so much,

    DON

…that is, there’s a “lego” solution to this (suspiciously) simple problem.

Thanks for the posts. I don’t mean to be suspiciously simple. I don’t do electronics beyond a few switches and general household stuff. I’m looking for a company (or talented individual) who can help our company develop and produce the device described above. There are several 110v components that we would also like to monitor with the temperature.

      Hi Don,

Netduino is the “brain” of an electronics project. In this case, add an XBee module (or XBee expansion shield), a temperature sensor, and a bit of code…and you can monitor the temperature and then transmit it to other devices.

There are a number of electronics platforms that you can use to develop electronics projects. Netduino is popular because it’s open source (all the software source code and hardware design files are provided for free to use in your own designs) and it uses a simple yet powerful programming language that millions of programmers already know. Plus, it’s really easy to debug Netduino apps.

Thanks for your interest in Netduino and electronics…

The board features a 32-bit microcontroller and a affluent development environment, authoritative it a absolute band-aid for engineers and hobbyists alike. The Maker Shed is appreciative to be the absolute benefactor for this amazing little micro controller.

Launched originally as a source for back issues of MAKE Magazine, the Maker Shed expanded rapidly to meet the demand for 'projects in a box,' otherwise known as kits. Now we have a little bit of everything for makers, crafters, and budding scientists, from Arduinos to sock monkeys to chemistry sets .
