   I’d like to see some reference material on how street signs are actually made. The idea of making my own for absurd artistic purposes appeals to me (but I’m not gonna go make a traffic hazard with them, that just sucks).

   If you’d rather do it without risking an outcome like this, you can simply call your local DOT and ask if they have any old signs they want to get rid of. These things get replaced regularly, and the old ones will have accumulated lots of character.

   For those too lazy to follow the link: stealing a sign makes you criminally liable for anything that happens as a result of the absence of that sign. Think about it.

   Stolen government property? We are the government, so you are essentially stealing from me. Not to mention the safety issues. Repurpose/Upcycle is a good thing, but stealing in order to repurpose it just wrong.

   I presume that the artist’s classification of these as “stolen government property” was meant to be tongue-in-cheek. I’m sure there are plenty of ways to get these signs legally and without safety concerns.

   I am a little late writing on this thread, but I’m the designer’s wife. Matt, you are very correct – the “stolen” was tongue in cheek. All our signs are from flea markets where you can find signs both new and old to work with.

   Hahaha…. It’s pretty cool to have street sign furniture in your room, especially if you’re the kind of person who doesn’t want trespassers or loves signage designs. Some people like designing their rooms with signages. Some put funny imitations of road signs on their door to warn their siblings that disturbing isn’t allowed.

Some people like designing their rooms with signages. Some put funny imitations of road signs on their door to warn their siblings that disturbing isn’t allowed.
