Yarn review: Sheep(ish), by Vickie Howell for Caron

We’re glad to be a stop on Vickie Howell’s blog tour for her brand-new yarn line with Caron, called Sheep(ish). It’s an acrylic/wool blend (hence the “sheepish”) with a nice handspun texture and softness. It’s a great choice for projects you need to be washable.

I love the retro-inspired color range! Those browns and oranges are especially warm and pretty. I’m definitely making a nice, cheery afghan with this stuff soon.

As Vickie says on her website:
“As a working mom of three children-ranging in age from toddler to tween-I get what it means to be busy. Every day is a balancing act of family, career, and living creatively. When designing Sheep(ish), the first yarn in my new line, Stitch.Rock.Love, I kept those things in mind. I wanted a versatile (and washable) fiber, in rich colors, but affordably priced. I’m thrilled to say that thanks to Caron, Sheep(ish) is all of those things!”

I was a little unsure if I could really do a yarn review justice, because I can’t knit, and I’m only moderately competent at crochet. Then I realized: what a great opportunity to see how Sheep(ish) stands up to repeated frogging! Because if there’s one thing I do often, it’s frog.
This little bag’s first ten rows or so were frogged four times before I got this pattern right. And as you can see, the yarn handled it beautifully. And it feels lovely in your hands.

If you are a knitter, do check out Vickie’s pattern page on the Caron website. There are lots of pretty free patterns there.
You can find Sheep(ish) at Buy.Caron.com, and at Jo-Ann stores nationwide. In fact, Vickie has a finder app on her website to help you locate the Jo-Ann nearest you.
If you’d like to check in on the rest of the blog tour, here’s the schedule and links. We’ll have an original pattern from Vickie soon!
