The Bulbdial clock from the Maker Shed is a unique LED based clock that works like an indoor sundial. It features 72 ultra-bright LEDs, an ATmega 168 based microcontroller, a laser cut case and everything else you need to complete the kit. The microcontroller comes pre-programmed so all you have to do is assemble the clock, set the time and bask in the awesomeness.

I bought this kit with my SparkFun free day credit. It’s not a super-simple build, but it’s not real difficult either. Bending, soldering and aiming the LEDs takes a fair amount of time. I think it took me 3-4 hours start to finish. The kit make clever use of its own parts as assembly jigs that help immensely.
I have the finished clock sitting on my shelf at work. It’s drawn quite a few comments, once people notice that it’s there. Now, I just need to figure out how to reprogram it so I can mount it upside down under the shelf.
