Rachel Hobson posted this amazing dress on CRAFT. I think the TIE Interceptor “bow” and starry stockings really help sell it.
Our pal Bonnie Burton has an interview with crafter and Star Wars superfan, Jennifer Landa, over on StarWars.com about her rad Death Star dress she made and wore to Comi-Con.
There were times when I thought the skirt wouldn’t work. Originally, I tried making the skirt out of a giant soccer ball pinata! That was a disaster because the actual structure of the pinata wasn’t perfectly round. I couldn’t find a balloon large enough so I ended up using a beach ball instead. Another challenge was actually getting into the skirt! You can’t sew a zipper onto papier mache! In the end, I cut slits on the back and sides and then used black ribbon to tie it together. It wasn’t a perfect solution but it worked temporarily and the skirt is still in tact! Thank goodness!
Read about what she used to form the skirt and how she pulled the entire outfit together over on StarWars.com.

While very cute, dress and girl, I can’t believe she’s risking the bad pun’s and sexual innuendos of what a construction of such a epic thing must bring………..
Nice exhaust port, can’t believe its only 3 meters wide. (even it a galaxy far far away they use the metric system, come on Burma (Myanmar), Liberia, and the United States!)
Can I make a trench run to your exhaust port?
Stay on Target, Stay on Target…..
You may fire when ready!
At that speed will we be able to pull out in time?
I have you now!
What!
Yahoo!
I’m hit! Get out of there you can’t do any more good back there!
You’re all clear kid lets blow this thing and go home! OH!
Standby…Standby…
Great shot kid that was one in a million!
It came from… behind!
Only a precise hit will set off a chain reaction.
I can hold it! Eject! *splodes*
and so on and so on ;)
“That’s no moon.”
Sorry, the dark side made me do it.
Very cute, nicely done.

I once made a large Death Star piñata — see http://www.flickr.com/photos/tachyon/4917655198/
To quote from my photo description, here are the two reasons the Death Star’ was rather pear-shaped:
Because it was so large, the weather balloon inside expanded a lot during the day as the air got warmer and then contracted a lot during the night as it got cooler, making the paper-mache process go less smoothly than usual.
Because it was so large, smoothing lots of wet paper-mache newspaper strips all over it made it *heavy*, distorting the shape as it hung down.
It is truly a nice and useful piece of information.
I am happy that you simply shared this useful information with us.

Aw, this was a very nice post. Taking the time and actual effort to create a good article… but what can I say… I put things off
a whole lot and never seem to get anything done.
