New in the Maker Shed: Arduino Mega ADK

Arduino Mega ADK
The Arduino Mega ADK has been in the Maker Shed for a couple of weeks now and we finally have sufficient quantities to blog about it! It looks just like an Arduino Mega 2560 except it has an integrated USB host controller and extra USB port, making it Google ADK compatible. Lots of cool projects are being built around this board and Android phones. Don’t you want to get in on the fun?

Features:

  • ATmega2560 Microcontroller
  • Operating Voltage 5V
  • Input Voltage (recommended) 7-12V
  • Input Voltage (limits) 6-20V
  • Digital I/O Pins 54 (of which 14 provide PWM output)
  • Analog Input Pins 16
  • DC Current per I/O Pin 40 mA
  • DC Current for 3.3V Pin 50 mA
  • Flash Memory 256 KB of which 8 KB used by bootloader
  • SRAM 8 KB
  • EEPROM 4 KB
  • Clock Speed 16 MHz
  • USB Host Interface (MAX3421e based)
  • Google ADK Compatable!

Has anyone seen any projects done by using this board?

I don’t think I’ve seen any ADK projects, using any boards. Aside from ones just showing the demo projects that ship with the ADK.

It is funny. When I heard about all of this in May, it seems there were others. There’s one made by Microchip. And one made by FTDI Chip. That one is based on the VNC2 platform. Now no one is talking about the Microchip one, FTDI is of course talking about their platform. And naturally this platform is being promoted here. Sadly I’ve had a lot of bad luck with the original Arduino platform, since programming it can be difficult at times, whereas programming the platform from FTDI is much easier. I still haven’t found the right platform for it as a target however. According to their notes, the ADK method of access is only supported on two versions of Android,

I just paíd $20.87 for an íPad 2.64GB and my boyfriend loves his Panasoníc Lumíx GF 1 Cámera that we got for $38.79 there arriving tomorrow by UP S.I will never pay such expensive retail príces in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LCD T V to my boss for $657 which only cost me $62.81 to buy.
Here is the website we use to get it all from :   http://BidsBit.com

I am the Evangelist for the Maker Shed. It seems that there is no limit to my making interests. I'm a tinkerer at heart and have a passion for solving problems and figuring out how things work. When not working for Make I can be found falling off my unicycle, running in adverse weather conditions, skiing down the nearest hill, restoring vintage motorcycles, or working on my car.
