Make: Thanks

To all of our readers who are celebrating Thanksgiving, a happy holiday to all of you from all of us at MAKE. This day, besides being about celebratory overeating and sports viewing, is also about taking stock of what you have and being thankful for it. We are all very thankful for another year where we got to do what we love, helping orchestrate the floats for this crazy-cool DIY parade we call the maker movement. We love working with you all and serving your needs as makers. Here’s to another year of a creative, productive, and fun association.

We want to hear from you; what you’re thankful for this year. In the comments below, tell us some of the making-related things you’re most thankful for — your hackerspace, some new project you successfully completed, a new skill you learned, an idea or collaboration you’re excited about, whatever it is (but please keep it about making).

Have fun, be safe, and keep the antacids handy…

Love from your pals at MAKE

The printing press brought the first Renaissance, and now the internet is bringing the second.  Soon, everyone will know everything, all the time, and the only question that will remain unanswered is:  What will we do with all that knowledge?  What will we make with it?  And I am so grateful to be working here, with such amazing Renaissance men and women, helping figure that out.  Bless you all.

Thank you for an awesome site. I am thankful for even being able to still read your great stuff, just had a major heart attack last July.

Several years ago, a friend of mine called me and the first thing he said was: “Have you noticed that the internet actually works?” I knew exactly what he meant. I’d noticed that, seemingly suddenly, I was able to get a greater yield from my searches and could successful type in plain questions to get it. And then came Google voice search and image recognition search and then Wolfram Alpha. And while Siri pretty much sucks so far, I think the future of this sort of tech bolted onto search will be another big step forward. So I give thanks to search that doesn’t suck. It’s an invaluable and critical tool in a DIY/DIWO world.

I’m thankful your mag and blog are there! And thanks to a friend who made me aware of them. I had been finding ways to use my free time without getting bored (model trains and minor tinkering alone can get stale for me), so the ability to meet others with tinkering interests and share what I’ve done is wonderful to have! The tricky thing is that a lot of parents like me are busy with raising kids (and getting exhausted), that it’s rare to run into someone like me who would rather be tinkering in the basement than chilling out in front of the TV after the kids go to bed. Going online helps find folks like me.

So grateful for working on MAKE. The community and ethos give me faith in humanity and inspire me daily!
