Dad and Kid Wooden Wagons

MAKE regular Craig Smith wanted a wagon to match his (super cute) son’s, so he built it!

My son loves his big red wooden wagon. It made me remember when I had one, and wished I still had it. But a kid’s wagon is too small for yard work, landscaping and other things I would want one for, so I made my own from scratch. The top is a 2’ by 4’ sheet of ¾” Birch plywood and Poplar 1X4s. The framework is made from 1/8” steel angle and flat stock. The wheels were replacement wheelbarrow wheels bought new. The finished bed has a rosewood oil treatment and I am going to make the red sides soon.

He needs a different ‘teddy’ in his wagon. :-3

Very nice! I have an original US red all-metal wagon (from just before they moved the manufacturing to China) and use it for yard work. Anything larger would get caught on sidewalk borders. Need to repaint the bottom and line it with wood strips to keep the paint from being scratched.
